A Great Weekend

My sister and her husband bought two lots near Truman Lake. They made four camper sights on the property, one for them, one for us, one for a friend, and an extra for guests. We named the place P B and J fishing lodge ran by the dogs. (P B & J is the first letters of our last names, and we have four dogs between us) The place is beautiful with shade trees and lots of space for the grandkids and dogs to run and play.  We are building an area for a fire pit for everyone to use. I can’t wait until the fall when we can sit around the fire roasting hot dogs and s’mores.

It had been in the upper 90’s and extremely humid all week at the lake. Sunday morning we woke up to 70 degrees and partly clouding skies. Perfect time to go crappie fishing with my sister and her husband. They own a nice fishing boat, equipped with comfortable swiveled seats and a state of the art fish finder.  I have no idea how to read that thing. All I could see was how deep the water was. I tried not to look at that very often. Even with a life vest I wasn’t comfortable in 70-80 feet of water. It makes shivers run down my spine just thinking about it.

I was the first to catch a fish. Boy was I excited.  It was the biggest crappie caught that day. (It’s my story and I’m sticking to it) Dale was in the front of the boat fishing with two poles. He was pulling them in one right after another. In no time He had caught his limit. I found out he had his very own fish finder. No wonder he was getting all the fish. I think he was cheating. It doesn’t matter that he’s been fishing   for over fifty years. After that first fish, I caught mostly logs, rocks, and anything else to get my hook caught on. I spent more time tying on hooks than fishing.  We headed back in when we ran out of minnows. The four of us caught a total of forty- two fish. My brother in law taught my husband how to fillet fish. I know he was getting tired of always cleaning the fish by himself. I do believe a fish fry will be on the agenda in the near future.

Thanks to my sister and her husband we have a nice private place to park our camper and get to fish with then on their boat. We are looking forward to spending a lot of time there enjoying our family and friends.
