The Love Of My Life

In November Garry and I will be married forty-two years. I was sixteen and he was almost twenty-six. In today’s world the age difference sounds so wrong. Back then to marry so young, everyone assumed I was knocked up. They also said the marriage wouldn’t last a year. We certainly proved them wrong, didn’t we?

When my daughter was sixteen  she dated an eighteen year old Army soldier. I had a hissy fit that she was dating someone that old.  She always was attracted to these really good looking guys, with absolutely no brains. The Army dude was no exception. She finally got it right and married a guy that is handsome and has a brilliant mind.

As I had said I was just sixteen years old when we married. I was madly in love with this worldly older man. I couldn’t get enough of him.  I wanted to be with him all the time. I thought everything he did was wonderful. On our dates we would usually go the local beer joints. There I would watch him shoot pool while listening to music on the juke box. He won a lot of money betting on those bar tables.  There you have it, he was handsome, made lots of money betting on the tables, and as a bonus I thought he sang like George Jones. It’s no wonder I fell in love with him.

After all these years I still get excited when he walks into the room. He has always put me first. He does everything he can to make me happy. That is not an easy job; because I can be a bit cranky now and then.

Now that we are both retired we get to spend 24/7 together. We are using this time while we are still healthy; to travel to all the places we have always wanted to go. I hope we have many more years to enjoy each other. Garry’s not only the love of my life, but my very best friend.
